Montauk is famously known as “the End of the World” - the easternmost point on Long Island and New York State. Although travel here is a bit lengthier than a standard trip to NYC, we know once you arrive, you will fall in love with the scenery and beach town.

We are happy to assist our family and friends with any logistics and recommendations.

Please see our accommodations tab for details regarding lodging.

New London (CT) To Orient Point (NY) (for those with a car)

For those who prefer to have a car in Montauk, we recommend taking the ferry from New London to Orient Point. From Orient Point, you need to either drive around the sound via Riverhead, or our recommended more scenic route would be to take the ferry from Greenport through Shelter Island. Stopping off in Shelter Island for lunch on the way is well worth it.

New London (CT) to Montauk (passengers only)

This direct route lands you straight into Montauk.

Parking is available at the Water Street Parking Garage in New London, directly across the street from the ferry terminal.

Flights

NYC Airports (LGA, JFK, or EWR)

We recommend flying into LaGuardia (LGA) or JFK Airport, both of which are located east of Manhattan in Queens and 2:30 hour drive to Montauk.

Newark Airport (EWR), is located west of Manhattan in New Jersey and 3:15 hours drive to Montauk, though may vary based on city traffic.

Long Island- Islip Airport (ISP)

Long Island MacArthur Airport (ISP) offers a closer, regional option to fly into as it is located 1:15 hours to Montauk. ISP includes direct flights from Charleston, Baltimore, Nashville, Atlanta, and Tampa - with flights serviced by Southwest, Frontier, and Breeze Airways.

Westchester Airport (HSN)

A third option would be to fly into Westchester Airport, particularly for those with family in the region. Potentially cheaper for some airlines, but a longer drive to Montauk post landing.

Transportation from Airport and NYC to Montauk

Rental Car

Particularly for those flying in, it is recommended that you rent a car to facilitate  travel, both to/from Montauk, and to more easily get around Montauk and the rest of the Hamptons, exploring all the region has to offer. All recommended airports include major car rental companies.

Long Island Rail Road (LIRR)

Taking the train - LIRR - provides the best public transportation option, Stu’s favorite method of getting back and forth from the city.

Flying into JFK provides the easiest option to train in from NYC - with a relatively easy connection to LIRR Jamaica station via the JFK AirTrain. From each of these airports, you should expect a three-hour train ride once you connect to the LIRR.

Other origin station options in Manhattan include Penn Station and Grand Central Station.

Jitney

Some prefer to take the Bus rather than the train if coming from midtown in NYC.

Black Car Transfer

There are many black car transfer options from the airport. Here is one that we have used before that has many different vehicles depending on the size of your party.

Uber / Lyft / Taxi

Rideshare services such as Uber and LYFT, as well as local taxi services, are available in Montauk and throughout the Hamptons.

If getting an uber from the city then be prepared to tip, the driver has a long drive back home...

Helicopter

For those in a rush and willing to spend the $, Blade offers helicopter and seaplane flights from NYC and its surrounding airports to Montauk (and back). Travel time is about 40 minutes.
